Holding the Senate is going to be very tough for Democrats in November.
The party holds a single-seat majority and is defending 23 seats as compared to just 11 for Republicans.
And, already, one seat is basically lost — in West Virginia where Sen. Joe Manchin is retiring and GOP Gov. Jim Justice is nearly certain to win this fall.
But, Senate Democrats got some good news on Thursday with the release of polling in 5 races that suggests their candidates are running WAY ahead of their Republican rivals.
Up 18 in Nevada! Up 13 in Pennsylvania! Up 9 in Arizona!
These are numbers that Democrats didn’t even dare to dream about a few months ago — amid the Joe Biden doldrums.
And they suggest that Harris’ surge at the top of the ticket has downballot effects — boosting Democrats running in tight Senate contests.
While this is good news for Senate Democrats, they still have to find a way to win races in Montana and Ohio — two states Donald Trump will absolutely carry — in order to hold their majority.
Not an easy task!
