Sorry to hear that about Collins. She could have some fun as a lame duck, becoming a true wild card. Instead, she will continue with her usual schtick of talking like a moderate and then voting the Republican party line. At least until she gets past her primary.
It's WAY too early to talk about 2026 elections. Let's wait and see how much taxes do drop for non-wealthy Americans, how tariffs will affect shoppers, and how much the prices of eggs and gas do drop first. Not to mention health care, etc.
OK, let's face some inevitable realities: Trump is Trump. He hopes to win confirmation for the most astoundingly incompetent group of cabinet secretaries (and other appointees) ever envisioned by a US president. Failure, indeed, humiliation, is inevitable. It doesn't require a crystal ball to envision two years of disaster, followed by the flipping of both houses of the Congress. That could be followed by a third impeachment, a first conviction by the Senate and the arrival on the scene of the hopelessly-overmatched Vance. Trump is Trump. He isn't going to change...and that's bad news for Trump and worse news for America!
In 2018, the GOP gained 2 Senate seats (which surprised me), but had a net gain of 40 House seats. And though in 2024 Trump won 2 of the Dem Senate seats up for reelection, they were both <3% margins (MI and GA). Maine was won by Harris by 6%.
First, never underestimate Donald J Trump’s ability to alienate supporters in a short time. He is making wildly inappropriate choices for important jobs, and bleating “policies” that may have a detrimental effect on America, and on his voters, who want an “improved” economy with lower egg prices and more money in their pockets. Also Susan Collins is a frail 71 year old. If Democrats could run the right candidate with the right support, maybe, just maybe, a chance to prevail. And also a maybe..that after two years of Senatorial rubber stamps on goofy moves by President Trump and Co-President Musk, more states might be ready for a change. Let’s get busy!
I'm "disappointed" and "concerned" that Susan Collins plans to run again. I had hoped against hope that she might show some guts against Trump in what we thought might be her final term, but instead we'll get more mealy-mouthed, sycophantic sound bites to add to her greatest hits. Let's hope that "settled case law" and overturning Roe has staying power into the midterms.
No there's nothing to worry about! She knows Trump "learned his lesson" after his first impeachment! She'll also throw in a furrowed brow if things get really dicey.
I guess I’m amused that we are even pretending to assess a predictable future. Like, does anyone on any side of the aisle think things are going to look how we think in 6 months?!
Here is my prdiction for 2026 for both the House and the Senate. If DJT along with his current and probably future cabinet picks tear evrything apart as promised, then I think Americans will suffer such that in 2026 they will say enough is enough and return both the House and Senate majorities to Democrats. On the other hand, if somehow they don't go through all of the promised destruction then perhaps the Republicans will retain the Senate and maybe the house.
It’s funny, I went through that same exercise yesterday and came to the same conclusion, GOP Senate for some time now!
IF the two conservative justices retire (??) President Trump could have a minimum of 5 selection on the Supreme Court and who knows, maybe even 6 by the time he is done!

Wake up you are dreaming

Let’s wait and see what damage Trump does before we decide who is and isn’t vulnerable.
It’s way too early to talk about 2026. I think the Trump shitshow is going to turn a lot of people away from the Republican Party.
I'm going to have to be out of the country in 2026 to avoid what promises to be 24/7/365 Orange Semiquincentennial
Politics never takes a day off. 😂
Sounds depressing for democrats. I do respect Collins, but I agree would have been interesting to see how she voted as a lame duck
You gotta admit, President Trump sure keeps things interesting!

Good news Chris!
