Great article Chris, I appreciate you sharing insights that might help others. Now that you're doing more TV, etc., I would love to see a "Where's Chris" included in Chris Crucial. If you let us know what appearances you have scheduled for the next day it gives us the opportunity to tune in.
With Lynn mentioning you and MSNBC. I have always thought an interview with you and Steve Kornacki about the election and polls would be very interesting. Steve and his "BIG BOARD" is the reason I always keep MSNBC on a screen during elections.
Also great article, and THANK YOU. It has always been way to easy for me to equate life with my career and job. I need to constantly remind myself life isuch.more than that.
Chris—-you have previously written about your life long issue with anxiety. It is a difficult thing to overcome, whether through meds, therapy or some combination of them. Your earlier anxiety over TV appearances clearly is one form on anxiety that you have successfully overcome. I hope it leads you towards a more anxiety free life
Chris…I appreciate the personal insights you have shared and in complete agreement on your assessment of your situation. I’m a lot older than you but I can attest that once you can get to the IDGAF level, the anxiety disappears and your performance improves markedly. You are good at TV and it shows. Keep it up!
Saw you on MSNBC with Andrea just by accident. I thought, "Huh, what's Chris doing on MSNBC?" You were great and as you said, relaxed. It all works out if you just give it time. And you are so much happier! Here's to that!
Sadly, some issues can not be minimized or dismissed. Trump and his MAGA movement have caused millions of americans to care more about politics than they ever would have imagined. For many, that has led to stress and anger. Being rid of that pox on our national house will be a huge benefit to our society.
So true. I wished I would have leaned to stop caring about what people thought decades ago. It’s a true superpower. Everyone is faking it, just LARPing through life, and the sooner you realize it the better off you will be. One of your best posts to date.
I can definitely relate to Chris' journey as a longtime reporter. The evolution of the media industry forced me to start doing podcasts in 2018, and I certainly felt some anxiety about it. I had always enjoyed telling other people's stories, but I didn't feel comfortable at all getting on the mic. But now, I have nearly 300 podcasts under my belt...and it appears that I don't suck at it. You got this, Chris!
What do we want on our tombstone? ‘His accounting reconciliations always flowed to zero’ or ‘he genuinely cared about his colleagues, his family and his small (but probably not very important to the nation) community?’
100%. While I have a very different business, the "don't put all your eggs in one basket" motto still applies. As you noted, with your newsletter and other things, you can be more selective and relaxed as it's not all or nothing. TV is now "additive" for you vs required. Congrats on growing the newsletter and the continued journey.
As an aside - your posts about going to Cooperstown with your kids got me to finally go to Kansas City and check out the Negro League Hall of Fame.
Very well said, Chris. In fact, you could have facilitated my meditation this morning. Not taking life too seriously is a good thing. I loved you on CNN, by the way, and just by chance came across this new endeavor...maybe not so new, but new to me. No doubt I will subscribe. I'm glad you're in a good place!
One thing my wife has taught me is to care less about my career. I mean, I still do. But every minute I lay awake worrying or getting outraged about something some shmuck said to me is a moment wasted.
We all have to make a living. So your career matters. But in the end, family matters more. Being a good person matters more. Being happy (and non-anxious) matters more. The rest is nonsense.
Chris, not sure what you are searching for. I do not care for your writing and your opinions are worthless. Perhaps you can just take up finger painting. I do not recall having anxiety or stress in kindergarten.

That's a great idea Tammy C!!

I live by the philosophy I picked up from George Burns: the secret to success is to find out what you enjoy doing and get someone to pay you for it.
The jokes just write themselves on that one. How about the second favorite thing you enjoy doing?

That’s a beautiful thing to say! We need less anxiety in our lives

Well, he has been practicing a lot at home... and in his car. :)

Focus on the tombstone Chris.

This rocks. The more relaxed you are the better you'll do at it. Please give us advance notice of your appearances. We will tune in and cheer.
Again, wonderful insights into being a human being. Warmly Bill

Get over yourself!
It'd be great to have links to clips from your appearances if/when you have them
