Seeing more and more media articles reflecting this point of view and I'm sure it is right. Also - finally - beginning to see more discussion of Trump's many downsides, for example his age and cognitive decline. With Haley gone, and I'm personally convinced she's finished once the New Hampshire result is announced, Trump will be fully in the spotlight. Let's hope the light shines brightly.
I would rather have Nikki Haley continue in the race to continue to expose Trump's lies and his cognitive decline. Right now the way the talking and writing heads are saying and writing is like Nikki Haley is finished like she's reading her own obituary. Common man. Let the people vote before writing her obituary. Remember in Dixie, she just won 6 votes out of 6 and Trump won 0 vote there. I know that doesn't really mean much, but it's something. Let her continue the fight and don't just write her off because you (the talking and writing heads) want the Dictator to win the Primary
All true. I really do not understand why the RNC wanted any sort of primary in the first place. There was never a hope or a chance that anyone but Donald J Trump would get the Republican nomination. Trump is effectively an incumbent, and anyone who is not as racist, misogynist, xenophobic, homophobic, and anti semitic; or as nasty and as prodigious a liar as Trump is, had no chance of unseating him
I can't help but question whether a factor in Trump's momentum is the constant drumbeat from pundits about his nomination being inevitable. I also don't deny that the principal factor is the moral bankruptcy of the R electorate and politicians. In any event, I still hope against hope that NH surprises as it has in the past.
To your point regarding voters getting behind an apparent winner: This morning CNN interviewed various voters as they came out of the voting process. One voter said (as close to an exact quote as I can remember): "I like Nikki Haley, but I went with the popular vote".
What is WRONG WITH US? Did you see clips of Donald Trump’s “speech” last night where he garbled about “sollvin” and “a great death penalty” for the country?? And ELECTED OFFICIALS are lining up behind THIS?? After all he has done?? 500 THOUSAND dead Americans from COVID as he rambled about “a great light in the body” and a horse dewormer, denigrating our troops as “losers and suckers”, instigating an insurrection and refusing the peaceful transfer of power as he lies about “rigged elections”. And so much more!! We keep hearing about how we need to “let the American public reject him at the ballot box”. We DID THAT in 2020, and here we are AGAIN. We reject him AGAIN and face another insurrection and a complicit Congress that will throw out electors?
This particular category of spin (or, "lies," as Last says) is rather normal for politics though, right? I mean, the last several years we've seen extreme whoppers from DJT, way outside the norms of politics, but this kind of thing that Haley is saying has been normal in elections since forever. The candidate who trails in the polls *always* says something along the lines of, "yes, we're going to win, and we plan to keep going no matter what." It’s probably unfair to expect them to say anything different, since acknowledging that you're way behind and will probably lose would become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I will be stunned if Haley pulls this off. I don’t see her gaining that much ground in NH that would propel her in SC. She’s toast. It’s always been Trumps nomination to lose. End of story. I do hope that turning to the general, Trumps age & mental acuity come to the forefront and people can see just how bad he is. Of course, if he would lose that make up, he would age even more before our eyes.
The Seething Inadequates don't want "New" Coke, they want "real" Coke (even if they'df have to get Cokes "Hecho en Mexico" to get the real "real" Coke - made with can sugar, not corn syrup). Haley continuing like this demonstrates she is as unfit for the office as he is, for different reasons, but both deny reality.
I loved the Jonathon V. Last post that you linked. I think this is the best answer to those who wonder why you dog Biden's issues, or don't dog on Trump more: "But desire is not a substitute for analysis."
Speaking of ridiculous, I just this article on the CNN website - "Nikki Haley sweeps 6-person midnight vote in New Hampshire". It's absurd reporting like this that makes me despair of mainstream media.
I think that’s always been the case ie “auditioning” for VP, with EVERY candidate with the exception of Chris Christie and probably Ron DeSantis. That, and the desire to not piss off the Trumpian base just in case he is unable to run (either pulls out due to a criminal conviction or keels over into his Big Mac), are the reasons they have all refused to criticize him.
Is it likely he’d select her? I’m thinking probably not. He’ll either pick a “true believer” or someone that could “speak” to independents and moderate Republicans (which is seeming more and more as elusive as the unicorn), AND someone who will not “outshine” him and draw the spotlight off his precious little delicate ego. Kristi Noem? Tim Scott? Elise Stefanik? I don’t see the value of a true believer like Kari Lake, as she doesn’t bring anything “extra” with her in terms of demographics and she would definitely hog the limelight. Tim Scott just MIGHT bring a PoC vote with him, but given the blatant white supremacy of a large part of his base and his own just-barely tacit racism, that’s probably unlikely.
Hard to say which way he’ll go, but does it REALLY matter? We’ve got to Vote Blue No Matter Who if we want to have any hope of our valiant experiment in representative democracy surviving...

The good doctor has a point!
If Trump drops dead, the candidate with the best shot at replacing him is the one still in the race.
Ryan Binkley 2024?

Chris Sununu is a total clown who is in love with the camera to an unhealthy degree. I'll be thrilled when he is irrelevant again after tonight.
Thank you! I cannot understand how he was elected.
The accident of his birth matters there.
It must, because he is intolerable.

Yes, you have to wonder how much of Trump's momentum is a function of all the punditry commenting on his inevitable win

Disgusted and SMFH.

Haley being in the race makes Trump antsy/angry and increases the opportunity for him to say something monumentally stupid and racist.
( someone should ask Trump, publicly, to describe his feelings toward the Nazi Party).
Also- the more pressure TFG is under, the better the odds are of a health related end to his run.
Stick with it, Nikki. All the way to the convention.

Of course it is a marathon, yet some people finish and still end up last. She can't win her own state; she is toast.
What are the odds that she is angling to be his VP?

Vote 💙
He won’t have her.
