The Morning: Biden finds his anti-Trump message

Finally!

President Joe Biden and his team have struggled for months to find a message against Donald Trump that works.

Talking about what Trump did during the four years he was president feels like old news to swing voters — no matter how egregious some of the behavior was.

But, according to the Washington Post’s Michael Scherer, Biden and his team have now found something they believe will work: The idea that something “snapped” in Trump when he lost in 2020 — and that reelecting him would represent a major risk because of it.

Here’s the key bit:

The notion that the former president changed — becoming more self-obsessed, more dangerous and more extreme — has since been seeded throughout Biden’s campaign, the result of months of polling, focus groups and ad testing, his advisers say. Independent Democratic groups that plan to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to help reelect Biden have come to similar conclusions in their own research, according to people familiar with that work who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the strategy.

Will it work? I’m not sure! But it’s a very good thing to have a single message.

I break it all down in today’s edition of “The Morning.”
